Many people, if they really knew all the words to the Star-Spangled Banner, would have our anthem changed to Free to Be You And Me.

Nine out of ten economists must be wrong

Pop quiz, Spammers. What laws do 90% of economists say destroy the jobs most often held by teenagers, women, and secondary wage-earners? First one to get the right answer gets a personal congratulations from yours truly.

Once upon a time in Iraq

It's still on the news, on the front pages, and on the radio.

The pictures.

See? It's gotten that far. We no longer need even to specify what pictures we're talking about, 'cause we all know about THE PICTURES. Well, since everyone else has already made their opinions clear on the subject, I guess I may as well do the same.

I in no way condone the actions of those soldiers. I think what they did was a disgrace to the United States and they did their country a great disservice by reducing themselves to such levels. But look at the general opinion of the Iraqi people. The American media has been telling us that these pictures are expected to start rioting, mortering, and a general increase in violence. Expected, but where's the mass retaliation? I haven't seen it. The fact is, these people are used to being ruled at the end of a gun.

Those who view these events with horror and disgust have no right to call America equal to any other country. Why do I say that? They wouldn't be disgusted with us if they thought we were equal to Hitler's Germany, Saddam's Iraq, or Castro's Cuba. The reason this incites so much outrage is absolutely BECAUSE America is historically giving, humanitarian, compassionate and trustworthy. For this reason and no other are the actions of these soldiers so contrary to what we'd expect. It horrifies us that Iraqis beheaded Nick Burg, but it certainly doesn't surprise us. We've come to expect compassion from Americans and terror and murder from Iraqis. Why? Because the best predicter of future behavior is past behavior.

So far, The Pictures have been on the news for over a month. Not long ago there was a segment on NBC, wherein they asked various DC residents what their opinions were regarding the situation. Nearly all of them said they were tired of seeing the pictures and wanted to let the military take care of the situation - and IN BETWEEN people, they flashed the pictures! The media is happily cramming this down our throats for no reason other than to make us disgusted with our military. But, oh no... there's no bias.
